Canadian horn player Mathew James currently resides in Chicago. He holds a Masters of Music degree with Distinction from DePaul University, and a Bachelors degree in Performance from the University of Calgary. He is currently pursuing an Certificate in Performance from DePaul University under the tutelage of Jim Smelser (Chicago Symphony Orchestra). 

As a performer Mathew is heavily involved in new music with special attention to repertoire for horn and electronics. In addition he is a recipient of the Canadian Council for the Arts' professional musician grant program.

Mathew has performed with various ensembles in Chicago including Ensemble Mocrep. He has also performed with various ensembles in the Illinois and Wisconsin areas as well as in Alberta, Canada. Mathew actively promotes Canadian music as well explores music that challenges common conventions as well as the merging of various genres.

Mathew is currently collaborating with composer Pierre-Henri Wicomb which will bring a new electronic work for horn in 2014-2015.
